    Johnny Rivers

    Saturday | December 19
    Doors 5PM | Show 6PM

The renowned singer/songwriter/producer Johnny Rivers is performing live at the Diamond Center. Born in New York City and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Johnny Rivers began playing professionally at age 14. In the early 1960’s, Rivers hooked up with Jimmy Bowens and Capitol Records Producer Nick Venet. While under Bowen’s wing, Rivers recorded his first album, “The Sensational Johnny Rivers,” for Capitol, produced by Venet.

In January of 1964, Rivers opened the now world-famous Whisky à Go Go, where he recorded “Johnny Rivers Live at the Whisky à Go Go” and released his first #1 single “Memphis.” By 1966, with numerous hit albums and singles on Imperial Records, Rivers founded Soul City Records and Rivers Music Publishing. That same year, after writing and recording his #1 hit, “Poor Side of Town,” Rivers produced “Up, Up and Way,” which won 2 Grammys for Record and
    Song of the Year (1967).
