ZAPP AND DAZZ BAND TO PERFORM AT THE DIAMOND CENTER FOR FUNKFEST
Funk pioneer, Zapp, is one of the most sampled bands in history, featured in music by Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube. In 1995, they collaborated with 2Pac and Dr. Dre on the hit “California Love,” which became one of 2Pac’s most successful singles. Over the past 30 years, Zapp has pioneered the use of the talkbox while also scoring top-10 hits with “Computer Love,” “More Bounce to the Ounce,” and “Dance Floor, Part 1.” They have worked with legends such as Bootsy Collins and were originally discovered by George Clinton.
Grammy Award Winning funk group, Dazz Band, has hit singles that have performed on popular television shows such as Soul Train, Solid Gold, and American Bandstand. In 1982, they won a Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Group or Duo for “Let It Whip.” Other Dazz Band hits include “Swoop,” “Joystick,” “Heartbeat,” “Hot Spot,” “Party Right Here,” and “Let It All Blow.” Dazz Band is made up of founder and songwriter Bobby Harris, lead vocalist and trumpet player Skip Martin, and vocalist Donny Sykes.
